He Told Me I Could Either Sleep My Way to the Top or Be a B*tch!

At 21 years old I landed my first job in Hollywood as an assistant at a big agency. Part of the orientation process was meeting with a senior agent for mentorship. You can imagine that I was pretty excited about this opportunity – not only was I working at what I thought was my dream job, a bigwig in the industry was going to mentor me.

The day of our meeting I wore my special yellow suit and arrived early with a list of questions prepared. After forty-five minutes of waiting, I was rushed into his office by his over-caffeinated assistant and instructed to sit down while Mr. Big Shot finished his call.  When I finally had his attention (barely) he went right into his advice for me, which was both shocking and upsetting.

I share what he said in today’s vlog as well as why I never wore yellow to work ever again.

Have you ever been the recipient of bad advice? Perhaps you’ve reached out for guidance and received a slew of direction from people who have “been there, done that” and feel they have become the authority on how to get ahead. And while the advice from others may be well intentioned, it’s worth remembering it’s a product of their personal journey and beliefs, which inevitably colored their recommendations to you.

So the big question then becomes who do you listen to?

The answer is: The best advice comes from within! Your own intuition is and always will be the truest compass to navigate your path. Only yourSELF and Spirit know what is best so I encourage you to really consider who you are listening to!

Today, I specifically want to talk to all you quarterlifers (20 and 30 somethings) because during this time in your life you get A LOT of advice, mostly because you are asking a lot of very important questions! Decisions about your career, love life, where you want to put down roots – all of these major life events can make your head spin.

I’m sure you’ve noticed that the formula for previous generations doesn’t always resonate with you – you’re looking for something different, something deeper. The kind of direction that only comes from within. But you may have trouble accessing your own inner knowing and doubt yourself and your decisions. You are not alone and I want to help you find your own way.

Remember, if you truly want to live a life that is aligned with your highest purpose, you must navigate your own path by following your own inner guidance. Clear the mental clutter that is in your way so you can listen to the best source of advice – YOUR OWN.

Fondly,

Christine

P.S. I have a new podcast where I coach people LIVE on the air. Head over to Over it and On With It and listen in for inspiration and action steps

Christine Hassler has broken down the complex and overwhelming experience of recovering from disappointment into a step-by-step treatment plan in her new book Expectation Hangover. This book reveals the formula for how to process disappointment on the emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual levels to immediately ease suffering. Instead of wallowing in regret, self-recrimination, or anger, we can see these experiences as catalysts for profound transformation and doorways that open to possibility. You can find more info on her website, and follow her on Twitter and FB.
